How to Clean Your Swimming Pool

A sparkling, crystal-clear swimming pool is the ultimate summer delight, but keeping it that way requires some care. This guide is here to help you master pool cleaning and ensure your pool stays clean, safe, and inviting for swimming. Whether you’re a seasoned pool owner or a first-timer, you’ll find step-by-step instructions and practical advice to make pool cleaning a breeze. Let’s dive into the world of pool care and keep that water shimmering all season long!

Steps to Clean Your Pool

1. Empty Baskets

  • The baskets in your skimmer and pump remove most of the larger debris, like leaves and bugs, from your pool water. It’s important to empty the basket regularly, otherwise it can restrict the water flow to your pool equipment.

2. Skim the Top of the Water

  • Scoop out any debris floating on the water’s surface using your pole and a pool net, preferably a flat skimming net.

3. Vacuum Pool

  • To clean up all the debris on the bottom of your pool, you’ll need a pole, a vacuum head, preferably a rolling one, and a vacuum hose
  • Start by putting all the pieces together. Next, you’ll need to prime the hose with water so your pump doesn’t suck any air. To do this, place the head of the vacuum in front of one of the jets until water comes out the other end of the hose. After that, bring that end of the hose through the front of the skimmer and plug the hose into the suction line of the skimmer.
  • Now you can start vacuuming by going back and forth on the bottom of the pool until all the debris is gone. When done, the vacuum can be taken out and put away.
  • Lastly, empty your pump basket to remove the debris you just vacuumed up.

4. Brush walls and steps

  • Unfortunately, the pool vacuum cannot clean the walls and steps of the pool very well, so you’ll need to use a brush instead. Use the brush to remove any algae, stains, and debris that the vacuum cannot get.

5. Balance Chemicals

  • Lastly, you must test your pool water with test strips or kits and balance the chemicals as required. The main pool chemicals you’ll need to check and adjust are chlorine, stabilizer, pH, and alkalinity. Maintaining proper chemical levels will ensure your pool water remains crystal clear and safe to swim in.

Taking care of your pool doesn’t have to feel like a chore. A little effort goes a long way in keeping your water sparkling, your swimmers happy, and your summer stress-free. Stick to these simple cleaning steps, and your pool will always look its best. Cleaning your pool should be done weekly or whenever it gets dirty. By staying on top of cleaning and chemical balancing, you’ll enjoy countless moments of joy by the poolside. Happy swimming!
